Fond memories
As Munnabhai once said … “Life mein bahut kuch first time hota hai re !” Another event “happened for the first time” in the daashings! Bisu’s family had arranged for a get together…. to revive old memories, to bring back the old group, to commemorate Bisu’s PG & new job! Never before had this happened along with THE FAMILIES. It was another get-together, but the difference was, it sponsored by Bisu’s!!
It had all the elements of an informal gathering; the bold taking centre stage, the talented showing off their talent, and the witty tickling funny bones. But there were many other acquaintances who had come there to see Bisu’s celebration. Where did this DG come in from and how is this DG of such importance in a situation like this?(Well this is a question I was trying to find an answer to. I guess if I had thrown this open to the audience, I would have got “the DG is Bisu’s childhood; his good-time; his friends” as the standard response.)
There were many a laud for Bisu by his parents, relatives, friends, friends’ fathers, et al. I guess he must have felt highly elated to be praised in front of a crowd. Hard work always pays!
The best part was when all the kakus were reciting our childhood memories of games, get-together s , festivals, and the instinctive pranks which we played. It was such a great time we had! Looking back on the way we cried did bring laughs but looking back on the laughs we had together did bring tears to our eyes. When Sharmi was narrating the way we WENT ON with our fun even during her accident, I realized what we meant to her; and (though in a small way) also what we do mean to all others.
The climax was when we all sang “Yaaron dosti, badi hi haseen hai..”; that set Sid n Aks weeping. A very touchy moment for all; even I thought I might sob at the first line; but I controlled myself.
There was a collage of all our childhood pics put up on the walls. It was really amazing to see all of us in shorts, hairless faces, sometimes hairless heads and naked feet! I really miss the care free life which we led! The chilling out in summer vacation, and chilling out even when there was no summer vacation, are the times I want to live again!
So, understating the praises that went for us yesterday, I realized that to have friends is indeed a big asset; in times of joy & grief!
These moments won’t last, but the memories definitely will! (Thanks to Sony handy-cam!)
